Was bored and found the create ads  eyes ..Have just started my first wee run .... all of 3 days lol
Do they work at all or are they absolute rubbish ..... I've only done it as as experiment for myself ,not expecting much but hoping for the best
if it does fail it's only £10 down the drain

Hi Andy. I am also trying to find out the answer to that question (do they work?) as well. I really need to build my "fan" base on facebook so I have already tried 1 ad and am now running a second one.
I guess I have to try to experiment a bit and find out what works. The first ad campaign was pretty dismal and I am sure I did something wrong. I would like to learn how to target a bit better as well as making the content of the ad better.
I will see how this second ad goes. It is running until late next week. I will make another post once that campaign has finished and I can make an evaluation of it.  :)

In order to target these properly you have to identify your target market ...

age
race (if applicable)
location
interests
education
job

there are many parameters to work with but they arent going to work unless you know who you are wanting to market to ...

ie is your ideal customer ............... 24-35 , male, a supporter of a specific football team ?

what is the criteria for the people that are going to be wanting to click a link advertising your product or service ....

I have many discussions like this and it always comes back to the same thing ..... TARGET MARKET !!

You are only going to know that if you have done a little research .....

For instance you wouldnt market beefburgers to vegetarians now would you ??

well being jewellery it is mostly for anyone at this time of year and only targeted for the UK
But maybe you right and it can always be changed
Also doesn't look like much is happening on the impressions page ...but is has only been an hour or so

I use facebook ads for my snowboarding site, and have a couple of ads targetting certain brands and directing them to the manufacturers page on my site.  I have only set £1 a day limit for each ad, but i dont use ppc i use the other option, impressions. I get about 10,000+ for £1 a day using this method, and I get quite  few click throughs and sales.

I tend to go with impressions aswell, seems to work out cheaper than pay per click, especially if you get a fair few clicks

usually I'll go for $5 a day and let the ad run for a week to see how it goes, it gets targeted to quite a small area, usually I'll target one city at a time and a small target market relevant to the product being sold.

If the ad is for a shop, I tend to advertise one product with a click through to that product page, it seems to work better than a general ad advertising your business name.

Ad campaigns like this are quite tricky to get right, its trial and error really, till you find a style of ad that attracts attention, you need to pay alot of attention to the picture used and the text under the picture, it needs to grab their attention straight away and encourage them to click, which is easier than it sounds to be honest.

Trial and error, test out different ad ideas and see which ones get the best reaction, keep your ads targeted properly, dont try and advertise to people who will have no interest in your product, you'll just be wasting money.

Usually any ad campaigns I'v set up on facebook have atleast paid for themselves, so it can work, well it has done for me anyway.

I'd be targetting specific people if it was for jewellery, pick a decent product of average price, say a ring or somthing and target ages that would like the style of that ring then narrow it down to male only, in a relationship, and pitch it as a gift idea, do the same with a few products and be specific with your target market, just a sweeping ad thats shown to anyone probably wont draw in as many potential customers,
you can have more than one ad running off the same campaign, so all the ads share the same dayly budget

ok lets try it like this, i sell cosmetics online i cater for everyone regardless of age colour or style BUT if i were looking to promote myself i would choose an item that had  particular market .....

ie ... glitter eyeshadow ........

predominantly bought by girls age 18 - 24,
into a certain type of music,
usually in college or university ,
with an interest in alternative fashions ,
and usually located in university towns and cities ..

I've already cut down the market im targetting by a fair amount and by targetting certain areas of the UK at any one time have increased my chances of a click through and a possible purchase  .........

much better than an all round ad targetted at thousands upon thousands of women whose shopping habits i dont know ;o)
