Multiple Users / Accounts on one site?

Hi folks,
New to the game insofar as putting it online but not new to the selling aspect. Have been working in arts and artifacts for many years and now looking to slow down on the running around and automate everything online. I have many, many contacts insofar as business owners throughout Indonesia and so I want to create a site where these people can each have their own accounts, upload their product imagery and details, set the pricing and deal with the sales directly. We make commission on sales which will be addressed with the whole payment scheme of the system. Just wondering what softwares and carts you guys would use for that? I've been looking around and seen things like Magento at almost $3k a year to start with! Yikes a,d others that look just too damned simple and clunky!

Feedback would be great.

find an open source cart and tweak it to do what you need it to, there are plenty around, just a matter of finding one with the majority of the functions you need then code the rest in thats missing.
