Attributes Combinations workaround?

I was in the process of setting up sassy's shop and found a good template with prestashop.

However, one product has
12 colours
18 waist sizes
18 hip sizes
18 bust sizes
12 cup sizes
8 additional options

Now if I try to put that through the combination generator there's over half a million combinations and it gives a fatal error after using 1GB. Can prestashop not use the database in relationship style as it should rather than having to have all combinations listed. I did see a plugin for this but at $105 it seems a bit steep.

Is there any simpler workaround or is it just not suitable for prestashop.

There have been a few posts about this problem on the presta forums and it seems to be a big stumbling block.  Why not create separate products for the different colours, that would reduce the combinations down a lot.

I have created a module that lets you use as many attributes as you want, it does so by changing the way combinations are added.
