As John says, it would depend what I was selling but if money was no object then something like half time at either the World Cup final or the Superbowl.

Probably in a magazine relevant to what I would be trying to sell... although in truth I've never found single adverts work that well in that manner, people have more trust when they see you appearing month after month in the same magazine.

I'd probably go for Gaydar. Due to the nature of my site and products.
The only reason I haven't tried it yet is the cost.

There's a theory that you need to be seen or heard at least 5 times in one place before people pick up on your advert so if I had one chance, I'd keep the cash  ill

As it's a very competitive market rather than putting all eggs in the online basket one of the cheapest ways to advertise is to make yourself into a billboard for your items.

This can be done in a number of ways, one is having a huge print on t-shirts and giving them free to a handful of people who are your target market on the proviso they wear their t-shirts in the town centre or supermarkets on lunchtimes or Saturdays (or places your target market goes). Lots of us have people in our families and friends groups have the ideal customer so offer them xx% off or x amount free for doing it. You can even print a voucher code on the t-shirts and measure it's effectiveness.

As it's cosmetics you could even order some in and find a arty person to paint their faces with pictures to show off the goods. People will talk to you even here in the South East where it's practically prohibited to talk to strangers.

With a small budget maybe try and think of something different. So for adwords and googles content network you could look for cheap ways to get people to your site.

For example, one way could be to peek at Reuters news. Right just popped over there but nothing really going for cosmetics. However I did notice this little gem in entertainment:

http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE63J1S720100420

"Dear John" tops box office

The romantic weepie new film over here. Now that was published just over an hour ago. All the papers and television news broadcasters use Reuters for their main source of news. So you can bet that will be on the entertainment section of the news and in the papers tomorrow. There will already be plenty of Uk searches for "Dear John Movie" etc. Set up a ppc campaign with "Dear John Movie" for Uk. Currently noone is bidding on that term. Tommorrow there will likely be a surge in hits.

So then make you're ads read something like

Will Dear John change your life?
Look like Channing Tatum
Our mascara don't run anywhere

blah blah loads of silly ads like that. I don't know anything about cosmetics but you could throw together a quick article on natural looking cosmetics and how to get the Channing Tatum look using your products etc. Put them together for a Dear John special limited time offer.

But the point is with no competition whatsoever you've got a female audience who are interested in a romantic weepie film. Nice target audience at a cheap price. You could even pop over the official site. Download their wallpapers and other bits and bobs. Have some of their soundtracks playing on your article page. Offer them a load of rubbish free like the wallpapers, a free ebook on makeup etc if they sign up to your list. Then you've got them for selling to later. Once people have seen it another good way to get them is to make a poll like Titanic v Dear John or Kate Winslet v Channing Tatum. Who's the best makeup etc.....

Hmm, now I might think how i can use it lol.

ahh there is one advertiser but thats for a free movie download site. So I'd still put 1p per click. I would also do content network if you can do an ad with a leading question. So if you pop up on those youtube clips your question pops up.

Now there's two advertisers. Another 24 hours or so I bet there's at least half a dozen.
