was just reading a thread on another forum which has got me thinking and wondering just how many people will bother to turn out and vote this year ???

and who for???

although i realise the possibility of people revealing who they intend to vote for is slim it would be interesting to know if you care to share

I'm undecided so far but know for certain it wont be tory .... i have a long enough memory to remember the last time they were in power..

Very intresting, ive always voted...but never for the main two, oh yeah sorry :) three parties, however this time ive had enough and thought thats it, im not bothering.

Well, whilst having a coffee with a good friend, he asked if i was voting, i laughed and having known that he had never voted in his life, i said that like him i wasnt going to bother.

To my astonishment, he jumped on his soapbox and gave me the lecture that i had given him on previous occasions...he said he will vote this time but only to spoil his paper...so its still counted...what a good idea :)

So...vote people, and remember the option of writing obsenities all over the voting slip instead of kisses ! :P

Ha...and you can laugh at me...i just love Psephology, always have watched election night without fail, and have even read books on previous elections...and this time we may get a hung parliament, something ive never seen in my life time...so am quite excited.

I always vote but right now I couldn't really give two hoots who gets in. There's no outstanding candidate. You wouldn't trust any of them to do the job properly.

I'll still go cast my vote as ever but living a minutes walk from the polling station is probably the only reason why I'll go. If it was far away I don't think I could be bothered.

One other thing which has struck me the last couple of times I've gone to vote is that I have little or no clue who the names on the ballot sheet are. I know the name of my local MP (who I didn't vote for lol) and that's about it. Does nobody canvass anymore other than the main players?

Where I live in Liverpool, I have never had any party candidate at my door ( i have lived at this address for 22yrs), all we seem to get is leaflets and newsletters through the letter box.
The other thing that annoys me, is that all the leaflets and so called newsletters are just a medium to slag the other party's off, there is never anything constructive in them.

You go to the ballot box and vote for whoever, but are they going to work on your behalf? or just toe the party line.

If someone came to my door and spoke to me and I liked what I heard, I might just vote for them. Until that happens what do I do????

I always vote in general elections, not that there have been all that many since I was 18  whistle

May I just say I'm a vote counter for elections, spoiled papers are never counted and never read, it's a waste of the voters time and that of the counters. We see many with whole paragraphs of obscenities about a particular candidate we don't have time to read it and it's never passed on, anything that has anything other than one tick or cross in the correct areas offered is merely placed in a box sometimes with mutters from the counters and later shredded.

It's pointless to purposely spoil a ballot paper so if that's your intention save yourself the hassle of getting to the polling station because no one cares other than the poor souls whose fingers will be worked to the bone on the night

Being Irish and also being from a minority group within my own country, it was drilled into me how important voting was, I never met my grandfather, or my uncles or indeed many of my cousins who were killed in action serving in the armed forces defending our freedom.  Today there are many young men like them who are dying to perserve our right to free elections, and I feel it would be an insult to their memory not to use the freedoms they have died for, so I will be voting for the party that either gets our troops home or provides them with the tools to do the JOB.

Ooooo fun topic, time for me to crawl out the woodwork.

I always vote. As mentioned above, if you don't vote you can't complain.

Unfortunately, and I know some may disagree with it, there are only really two credible options. Not credible in terms of necessarily good options but in terms of chances of getting in. Liberals are, and will still after May 6th be, 'the other party' and even though Nick Clegg said a lot tonight on the debate, he was still the token third bloke on the stage and I feel he came across as such. Almost like having a Political Commentator on the stage to throw in his own tuppence worth.

Personally, I don't and would never trust the Tories, and David Cameron, though a Tony Blair wannabe actor, proved tonight, and in recent 'not mentioning gays etc' comments, that they, as a party have not changed. If you are rich, by all means vote Tory as they ARE the party for you however if you have to actually work for a living then don't.

Gordon, I felt actually carried himself well tonight. Ok he said the work 'risk' a dozen or so times and dwelled on the Tories claimed £6bn supposed invisible savings but certainly no more that Cameron said 'fundamental' or repeated the 'job's tax' in terms of the incoming National Insurance rise.

Now I'm not a strong Labour supporter but I do feel that when offered a choice between two evils, you should choose the red one! At least in this case I do. I'm sure some of you will agree, even if silently and I'm sure some won't and we can discuss the why's and wherefores about the Economy, the War, Health, Police, Schools etc etc until the NEXT general election in 2014/15 and we WILL all have differing opinions, as we would if we discussed Religion but all I can say is, in response to the OP's question, yes I shall be voting and it will be the colour of Claret.

I personally feel that I don't like the tories, I don't like labour even more. The liberals have now had a chance to show themselves for what they are about, I don't like all their policies but I believe they are genuine. All over this country people will have seen the debate tonight and have got a surprise because Gordon and David are cut from the same cloth, I don't believe their promises and neither will anyone, I have seen the realiziation on quite a few labour big wigs tonight that this may be the election where they are beaten into third place and we may have seen the demise of the Labour party. Lets not forget that many of the things we take for granted today came from liberal goverments not less than a hundred years ago, land reform, the right for common people to vote. Commentators always look for that point when they see that things will change, I believe that tonight we may have seen that moment when the old political classes are turned on their heads and it is about time, if you vote tory then expect to be shafted and them doing favours for their friends, and if you vote labour expect the same. Noone thought that John Kennedy would win but he won by a plain and simple debate on television, and Nick Clegg might not win but his party are going to come out of this race far better off than Labour.
