It's just the little symbol in the bottom left corner where it says done. Error on page and when I double click it that's the message.

I have pretty much the same set up on my old laptop as I do on my desktop in terms of OS, browser etc and the shoutbox works fine on my desktop but not on my laptop. I get the same error as above on the laptop.

Almost certainly a Java configuration error

Try working through this

seems to be a problem with how browsers deal with the element.outerHTML in the shoutbox,
some browsers are having problems with that, which causes no messages to show, why its not affecting all IE8 browsers, Im not sure I'd agree it could be a java configuration error,

Im looking into sorting the script.js file, as this is where the problem seems to be starting from,

I should have it sorted by tomorrow

Using IE script debugger it comes up with this:

element.outerHTML = toValue;

That is line 256 and it says:

Breaking on Jscript runtime error - element unknown.

some browsers seem to have trouble with how the outerHTML and innerHTML tags are set out,
what I cant figure out is why it isnt all IE8 browsers that have this problem, its only afew,

Im looking into how to change the layout of the innerHTML and outerHTML so it works in all browsers,
apparently opera should have the same problem, but I havent found it to have any issues at all, and again, my IE8 doesnt seem to have any trouble,

Im still looking into it, it should be sorted soon ;)

I've just gone into Tools>Compatibility View Settings

and added this site
e-commerce-forum.co.uk

don't need the index.php bit.

Now the shoutbox works.

Normally on sites with issues a little button comes up after address bar and before refresh button but it has never done so for this site. But adding it manually has done the trick for now

Normally on sites with issues a little button comes up after address bar and before refresh button but it has never done so for this site.

thats because I'v added code that forces IE8 to go into compat mode when entering the site, and it removes the button so you cant turn off compat mode when viewing the forum,
seems that your browser and other peoples arent going into compat mode properly, hence the manual fix you'v done seems to have sorted that
