Ok doing a little market research,

ive got a couple of stores im setting up right now that are mine, I'm wondering whilst setting up my shipping wether you lot as customers would rather have a selection of different services available or wether like me you would rahter only have a signed for option because then at least you can track the delivery and therefore hopefully cut a bit of the lost parcels out?

Depends on the price and type of goods you'll be selling, your going to let us know all your secrets now before we can answer  lol

If you are selling items that are £10 or under would a buyer be happy paying extra for the signed for option, where as if your items are £30 upwards then signed for or even fully tracked is a better option for you as a seller and not worth risking chargebacks.

Hope this helps.

Regards Dave

secrets ? me ?

i know not what you speak of David ;o)

mixed values to be fair both below and above a tenner

just thinking easiest and most cost effective in the long run, if its signed for to my mind there is no downside it doesnt actually affect the postage that much since postage takes into account the packaging etc too a start post and packing to me of £1.99 seems quite cheap considering cheapest item is £9.99

Never mind what the customer wants - I send everything recorded. Over about £50 it goes Special, whether requested or not.

If you add a Special Delivery option and then add something like "Recommended for deliveries over £39" you'll find that those that don't realise it's up to you to get the parcel to them will pay for the higher rate. I find about half the visitors will do that. It also helps if you add "Includes insurance up to £39" on your standard postage option.

Of course if too many customers read threads like this the percentage is likely to go down :-)

If you only use paypal as a payment gateway, and you send by means where you don't have a trackable record that you sent it you could be in trouble, the reason being if the customer issues a dispute paypal will always side with the customer, and you cannot prove the customer received the items. If they issue a dispute and you have a tracking number to show paypal then they usually side with you. Recorded delivery by whatever means is best, we had one person issue a dispute, saying he never had the item when paypal showed him his signiture he quickly withdrew it.

i think I've desided to cover my ass , signed for shipping all the way it has to be i guess, I would rather lose a few customers that don't wish to pay than lose stock in the post or money through false claims.

Thanks guys
