Just remember, you will have as an addition to your VAT and import duties the possibility of the carrier charging you a service fee as well.

Depending where you are importing from and what products  , if its from China for example ask the supplier to include C.o.C  (Certificate of Origin) as it reduces customs duty fee or depending on the product it could reduce to zero duty.

Vat will be still payable.

Also remember to get the supplier to declare the full value (real cost) if customs stop the parcel it could take weeks/months to get released to you and sometimes not at all.

Just from experience....on importing from US..... from July of last year you need to register with customs and excise for a EORI number..(economic Operator Registration Identification) the carrier will not release your goods in the UK until you have this number. Presumably this applies to other countries too when importing into the UK. Once application is done normally takes about 48hrs to get your number.

www.hmrc.gov.uk

Bit of a minefield to look through..might be better ringing them initially

Also presuming that this applies to all goods that you import...

I have little to offer that has not been said
I have imported and exported goods around the world but not for some years
Biggest problems you will encounter is Duty and VAT issues, payment to the supplier can also be problematic - while paypal seems to be the golden angel remember that most wholesale distrubutors will look for Bank transfer or letter of credit without these you will be sunk

Define first what the payment terms are, then look at the costs of importing - total the amount up - whatever you do do not work on the assumtion you can avvoint Duty or VAT this will be your downfall, if dropshipping bear in mind your client can and will be billed for duty and VAT on their package that arrives at theor address unless within certain limits.
