Does a website have to be optimised to be used specifically on a mobile phone.

I just had a call from a company offering to do me a two page mobile website with a .mobi domain name.

Of course I said, I knew lots of people in the website know and that I would rather give the work to them LOL.

smart phone browsers (aslong as you hold the phone sideways) will view webpages without any bother really, the only real problem being text links, they tend to be rather small on a phone screen.

The problem is, the type of person that tends to shop the most would be female, and women tend to hold the phone upright, they dont tend to turn the phone round to view a web page properly so aslong as that continues, then mobile versions of websites are still going to be needed.

You really dont need a version of your site on a .mobi domain, you can just get your zen cart to offer up another set of stylesheets (and page templates) to mobile browsers.
Im having a look at creating a mobile template for zen cart.

No doubt the company that contacted you would be looking for an arm and a leg for their version of a mobile compatible website. No need really.

Well no not really, it was free of charge apart from the domain name and the 12 months hosting.  Normal price would be 495 plus VAT but as they were doing it FOC apart from the nominal hosting and domain name they wanted 99 + VAT.
