It depends on what you need from your website.  I use Zen Cart and host with Scotserve - the Zen is free to download so all I pay is the hosting.  But you do need a bit of knowledge to do the Zen.

Lots of people are using Wordpress for their sites and getting really good results.

if you are really skint , a hosting account from one of the mass shared hosting providers .... heart , fasthosts, godaddy et al  from as little as £3 a week

a domain name £10 for 2 years for a .co.uk

and a free install of an open source software ... joomla , wordpress , zencart , prestashop , opencart , ( there are hundreds of options with these)   all give free templates online ( i f a little basic) and you can have yourself on the net for just over a tenner in the first instance  (though this might not be the best option for a complete novice)

scotserve ( a member here) does a monthly wordpress ecommerce option at £10 a month is his cheapest i think

we offer custom built design packages (starting at £250 there are a raft of freebies included including the years hosting and a logo design)  if you want more info  drop me a line and i will be more than willing to discuss your requirements

I personally would steer clear of any free hosted solution such as wix or gbbo and the like ,  most are limited in what they can do and if its worth doing its worth doing properly for a small amount of cash than badly for free

Thanks

I'm a complete novice, I also have a domain name and a logo, might have a look at wordpress thanks.

Rainee I would love to have one of your custom build websites but at the moment I'm really struggling, maybe if I do better in the next few months eh??

It is better to do a good job to start with as in the long run it will be more cost effective.  You could end up spending £10 per month for something which doesnt actually give you what you need at the end of the day where you could spend that on something better.

Maybe you and Rainee could talk terms LOL.

Just as an addendum - if you registered your domain through Mr Site they will charge you £15 to release it

Rainee I haven't sorted myself out really lol, I have absolutely no idea what I am going But your running a business to make ends meat like me, I don't think its fair to ask for arrangements either, If I can't pay upfront, I shouldn't have it.

Scott, I had my domain name before I went with mr site, I just put wordpress into the search engine and signed up lol.

Yes ut did you transfer the domain to Mr Site when you signed up ? couple of people on here did and then found Mr Site held them to ransom for their own domain name.

I didnt think WP did wordpress hosting ? if not who did you end up using
