Hi everyone,

Id like to introduce a new e-commerce software SOTESHOP. Open source and Free.
It based on Symfony, PHP 5, SQL, SQLite, JQuery, CSS,  HTML etc.

Home page: http://www.soteshop.com
Demo: http://demo.soteshop.com
Freshmeat: http://freshmeat.net/projects/soteshop

You can try it for free. I would be grateful for any comments.

If you are charging €49.00 per month or €490.00 for a licence, why is it any better than the usual open source carts?

Its based on Symfony which is an open source framework (I prefer codeigniter myself)
It uses jquery which is an open source javascript framework,
running on php 5, well it would need to, if it was running on anything less that php 5 then it wouldnt work properly on most servers now.

So given that it is totally based on open source frameworks, why should people pay for this software?
How good is the security, given that it is based on an open source framework?
What functions does it have for the sellers and customers that other carts dont have?

Why would it be any better than prestashop or open cart or zen cart, or any of the other open source, free to use carts?

<edit to add>

The cart is not in the slightest SEO friendly, the only thing search engines can read are the meta data, no content anywhere on the cart is visable to search engines, that is quite a big problem and one that really does need fixing if you intent to charge people for this software.

First of all Id like to thanks for your replay and comment.

This software is on the dual license. 100% is Open Source, 95% of features are free.
You dont have to pay for using it this if you don't need commercial support.

We support also free version as any open source project (freshmeat).

SOTESHOP use open source components, this make it flexible and we can quickly develop many features by using libraries/framework etc.
But the core and all concept is designed by our team.

Security - there is not good answer to use open source project or not to be secure. It depends... After each big release we make pen tests, and security experts try to crack it.
We do our best to be secure.

SEO - We created more than 7000 shops. A lot of them has high position in Google search results.

The cart is not in the slightest SEO friendl
Could you explain it a little bit or give an example?

Why would it be any better than prestashop or open cart or zen cart, or any of the other open source, free to use carts?
Software is sometimes like music. You can't campare it. Every program/music has their own features which you like, every has someting individual. So I dont want to compare.
I like Prestashop, Magento, Zen Cart and I like SOTESHOP.

This is not the best software in the world for all the people, but maybe some people would like it.
There is no software allways the best for everyone.

SOTESHOP - what is good at (in my opinion)
 * It's used by thousands of shops and it works
 * It's well designed. We spent a lot of hours studying typopraphy of each element on the front page http://blog.soteshop.com/2011/06/16/soteshop-5-2/
 * It's fast - we created fast cache system - full cache page http://blog.soteshop.com/2011/03/08/fast-cache-0-068-second-per-webpage/
 * It's easy to modify, because of using symphony, which is well documented.
 * You can in easy way change design, colors etc. http://blog.soteshop.com/category/webmaster/
 * We release new features and versions often
 * Trustedshops ceritifed
 * This is the best software if you want to offer your products in Poland (because we are from Poland).

SOTESHOP weeknes (I think)
 * We have a lot integrations for Polish market but not a lof for an international. SOTESHOP is integrated with PayPal, Moneybookers, Trusted Shops.
 * Trusted shops certification is available currently only in PL and DE. We are working to be certified for other countries.
 * There is some text & systems not translated yet. We are working on it.

Always is something to improve and we work hard to create better software, because we love it.
At the end Id like to invite again to trying our software for free. Dont pay if you dont want to!!
Try it, maybe you would like it.

thanks for replying great

well, the demo site runs inside a frameset

Quote from: google
Google supports frames and iframes to the extent that it can. Frames can cause problems for search engines because they don't correspond to the conceptual model of the web. In this model, one page displays only one URL. Pages that use frames or iframes display several URLs (one for each frame) within a single page. Google tries to associate framed content with the page containing the frames, but we don't guarantee that we will.

that's your software already on the back foot regarding SEO

unless it is only the demo store that is running inside a frame set, in that case my point is irrelevant lol
but if your cart is based around framesets then it isnt ever going to be able to stand up next to most other shopping carts regarding SEO and will struggle to rank well without extra effort.

I have and going to have a play at the weekend
Some issues for me

1) The lack of payment processing support other than basics
2) Reading the site it appears I have to buy the full product to get access to templates - is this correct?
3) I found the demo cart remarkably slow - maybe just a bad time so will try again and on my own servers

will report back next week

2) You don't have to pay. But you have to install software. During the installation process system download source code from PEAR repository and you can see all sources after installation.
We have also full installation package but available only in PL (maybe next week will be in EN)
3) If it will be nessasary I will move demo for faster server or change hosting location. It is no problem.

Currently on our site is available ONLY free version:)

This is a nice shop - going to have to seriously look at this for the top end sites rather than magento or x-cart

Just need some free time to really get into and check it out - anyone know where I can buy some free time :-)
