Install problem

I have followed the instructions for the presta install procedure but have come to a halt at the system compatibility stage. I can't go any further because I don't have write permissions on sitemap.xml and for the life of me can't find this folder or file anywhere. Also PHP register global is off but this is in optional setup so maybe I don't need to do anything there? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

sitemap.xml file is located in your root folder.

I have register global option off aswell and it doesnt make any difference to the running of the store.
