If You Get Knocked Down Then Try Again

WWW
« on: March 07, 2010, 11:41:32 AM »

My website has been live now for one week and it stilllllllll is not being indexed by google, although i have added a site map to my webmasters tools, have a google base feed working fine, and done everything it is telling me to do.

Being new to all this i am learning the ropes as i go along but i am starting to get a little deflated because i really cant make head nor tale of the webmaster tools ( not scared to admit it) and really am starting to worry that i will never be seen by google.

Can anyone give me some advice to where i am going wrong before i just screammmmmm

Many thanks

Just took a look at your sitemap - that is not an xml sitemap

Your sitemap.xml should look like this

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset
      xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"
      xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
      xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9
            http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9/sitemap.xsd">

<url>
  <loc>http://www.sinfulwicked.co.uk/</loc>
  <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
  <priority>1.00</priority>
</url>
<url>
  <loc>http://www.sinfulwicked.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&amp;cPath=159</loc>
  <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
  <priority>0.80</priority>
</url>
<url>
  <loc>http://www.sinfulwicked.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&amp;cPath=236</loc>
  <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
  <priority>0.80</priority>
</url>
<url>

  <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
  <priority>0.80</priority>
</url>
<url>
  <loc>http://www.sinfulwicked.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&amp;cPath=234</loc>
  <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>

What cart are you using Chrissy? There's usually mods for creating Google sitemaps that will do the job for you.

Where and when does that appear Chrissy?

Is it when you try to install the mod rain posted? Or something else?

Huh? Where does it say that?

You usually just need to ftp the files over to the correct directories using something like filezilla and probably run an sql patch from your admin panel.

Is that where you get that message? When you run the patch?

On a similar vein to Chrissy's thread..how often should you update your google base and google sitemap in admin?

Thanks  :)

Google base keeps products for a maximum of 30 days, so you need to upload the lists at least once every 30 days.

Google sitemaps should auto update themselves (I believe) and google will crawl them
