Another paypal question which is not related to my business but to a purchase my daughter has made.

She tried to buy something from a website but that site only takes paypal.  She doesn't have an account so used credit card to make the purchase and a paypal account was created.  Trouble is, this company now needs to refund as the item is not in stock.

Will that payment go straight back onto the credit card or will it sit in the paypal account?  Trouble is, if that is the case then she has to pay to get it withdrawn to her bank account.

Anybody any ideas?

Thanks
Alison

I could be wrong, but if the buyer does a straight refund, it should go back to the card, if they send a payment in lieu ( unusual as this negates refund of fees, etc ) then it would sit in the account...

There is a phone number for Paypal, they are usually really helpful, and generally it's always been a call centre in Ireland, rather than the middle east, so it's a lot easier to communicate !

Hi Alison

Interesting question, thought ianjofriel was right though...but checked and here is what they say on Paypal

If the sender used their PayPal balance or bank account, the money will be refunded to their PayPal account balance
If the sender used their credit or debit card, the money will be refunded to their card. This may take up to 30 days to appear on the card statement.
For payments funded partially by credit or debit card and partially by balance, PayPal refunds the card portion back to the card and the remainder to your PayPal balance
The refund will be credited to the sender in the currency of the original payment, using the same conversion rate used for the original payment
When you refund the money you received, PayPal also refunds any fees that were charged to you

 :)

Ps

Just thought of something you don't need a paypal account to pay by credit card visa etc when a website only accepts payment by paypal. But they will ask you to register with name and email.

Think thats right.....sure someone will let me know if incorrect  :)

If you get refunded then it will go to your paypal account balance. Unless you instruct paypal to put it in your bank it will remain in your paypal account.
