I've used Google checkout and PayPal.

However...

Google have now halted their service with me because they don't accept adult retail sites (who'd have thought such a modern company was so victorian?)
Today, PayPal sent me an email telling me they were now restricting my account and only releasing funds after 21 days!
They haven't explained why they are doing this. There have been no problems with refunds or complaints from customers in the nine months I've been in business. My record with PayPal is spotless.
I'm waiting for an explanation from PayPal, but to be honest I just want shot of them.
Their attitude and professionalism is so pathetically poor. They seem to forget that we pay them to use their service. Instead of acting like a paid service provider, they act like a dictator. They've become far too powerful and I for one will be glad to see them fall when an adequate competitor comes along.

I had contacted Nochex a few months ago and they agreed to provide service. I then found that my shop and hosting doesn't have Nochex integration!

So I'm now waiting to hear back from Moneybookers.
I'm not hopeful because one page states they don't do business with Adult/Erotic sites while another page states they don't do business with pornographic sites, but doesn't mention adult retail!

If moneybookers comes back to me and says they can't provide service, my site will have to close.
I cannot use a payment processor that waits so long to transfer funds to me, and I cannot work with one who checks with my customers that their purchase was okay!
Apart from the confidence in by brand being damaged by that, what happens when that customer thinks they have the chance to rip me off and get a refund? PayPal asks them if their order was okay, they say no, paypal refunds the money, I'm left out of pocket having paid for the item and the item is non-returnable.

I officially despise PayPal.
Right now my business is in the hands of PayPal and moneybookers. And through absolutely no fault of my own.

Warning: Use PayPal at your own risk!

Paypal don't like the Adult business like many other payment providers. Paypal is ambiguous in that it says no to "certain sexually oriented materials or services" and "items that are considered obscene".

So if you offer any bondage style stuff etc.

The thing is basically costs. Paypal exists because of ebay. There are payment gateways that exist because of adult stuff. Or get a merchant account. It will come down to costs though. Adult payment processors for low volume will want 8 or 9% instead of paypals 3 or 4%. I think looking at it from their side I would say their is a lot more to learn about individual countries' laws with this. That's why there's specialist for merchants taking payments for tobacco or other drugs. Some countries it may be ok to sell viagra (or a copy) some not. I suppose they want a piece of the money for the extra knowledge.

Just to update, I did get a response from PP, and it was as expected.
They still didn't tell me why they've made this decision (although I believe it's because I sold two items on ebay, just testing the waters).
It was just a standard form email, and they repeated their usual carp about "commitment to security" and "valued customer feedback" (to be expected).  whistle

So, you complain to PP and you get no answers, just a repeat explanation of the initial problem. No solutions. Not even a recognition that there is a problem.

So, I think it fair to warn people that if they start a site using PP, and then decide to explore ebay as a sales option, DON'T DO IT unless you truly believe your sales will increase and you are happy to accept PayPal's dictatorship over your finances!

PP state this as one of the reasons for withholding funds, and as I have zero customer complaints, this has to be the reason.

A payment processor is a company (often a third party) appointed by a merchant to handle credit card transactions for merchant banks. They are usually broken down into two types: front-end and back-end.

I can assist you with setting up a merchant account through Barclays, HSBC or Streamline if you were to use our EcomMerchant Payment Gateway. Drop me a PM if you would like further details.

Thanks,

Simon
