Payment Processors

Ok, to cut a long story short, I have a bad credit rating which affects my abilities to get certain types of accounts.
I currently have paypal and nochex on my site but I also want to be able to take take payments over the phone. Does anybody know of any accounts that will let people do that with an affected rating. I have already tried via paypal merchant pro (think it was that) but their computer said 'no'
Somebody suggested that I input the customer card details via paypal myself. Is this an okay thing to do. I have regularly had calls asking to order over the phone and I would love to do that, just seems my past is putting a HUGE block on me moving forward and taking my business a step further.
Thanks for any input

Hi there,
I am in exactly the same boat as you so I have avoided going down your route. You would have thought as they are not giving you credit they would love to help you take over people money.
The only thing that I could say is there a member of the family or friend that could get a account for you?
Failing that I would get your credit report from
www.experian.co.uk
and
www.equifax.co.uk
and then when you approach a credit company you can ask them which system they use.
The reason I say this is my experian credit rating is good and my equifax is not.
Just my two cents

I believe that you would require to have a merchant account with a bank to be able to take details over the phone... putting them into paypal yourself is HUGE no-no, apart from the fact it would breach UK PCI compliance laws regarding the usage, transmission and handling of customer financial information, how would you explain to paypal why you have hundreds of cards through the one account, you'd get flagged for fraud easily.
Also, the first disgruntled customer to report you used there details in this way and you could potentially be facing criminal charges.
I would endeavour to get your credit scoring sorted, worth spending a few quid to get the report, even without sorting it, if it's nothing major, you could visit your local bank and try reasoning with them for an account, showing them the failings on your scoring ?

Thanks Ian, I did wonder about the legal aspect of it and did not feel too comfortable about it
I can feel a meeting with my bank manager coming on as have quite a few things to discuss with her anyway.
Thanks for the input guys

Applied for the paypal one and got turned down!
Am with Nochex already but not sure at present I can withstand them keeping back some of my money. I have a basic account already ... get very few sales that pay by Nochex though.

Yes, I have got a business account and have spoke to them about over the phone payments but I backed off when they mentioned credit checks
Going to sort out a meeting with my bank manager soon I think but after speaking to the Nochex guy this morning it might not be worth having a virtual terminal because of the fees.

When you read what the costs are ,monthly & set up of merchant account in most cases you might as well stick with Paypal,Nochex or Moneybookers.
