Wonder if you can help please.....

I would like to set up 2 different shipping rates.... Category/Product  A £3.75 and Category/product  B FREE ship...is this possible?

I did read on zencart forum you can set up using per weight shipping module which seemed quite straight forward even for me lol.... but would the same apply for the above

If you have certain products which you want to give free shipping then you can set this as an option when defining the product - there is a box to tick for Always Free Shipping.

Is that what you meant.

I'd agree with Fiona, easiest way to do it would be to offer a flat rate of £3.75 and set any product you want free shipping on as free shipping in the product options

job done, free shipping on the products you select and £3.75 for everything else
