Hi,

Im new here. My name is Tom and im based in Devon.  I work for a blue chip company that makes and distributes a leading baby product.  I look after all things online, including their ecommerce store.  I also make ecomm sites for my own clients.

Looks like a great forum, happy to be aboard!

I was wondering if there is somewhere in the forum where we can post how good or bad sales are at present (in percentage terms - not money) so we could identify trends for those difficult to fathom things - like this weekend just gone, the main site I look after was down by about 30% in sales which could be because of the school holidays or could just be a blip.

Hello and welcome

No idea about where you'd post percentages, I imagine general business discussion might be appropriate but others may think differently. Would this really be a useful tool though. Individual businesses don't always follow industry trends and online businesses are affected by other factors such as downtime, slow servers etc.

School holidays can affect online sales while problems, in the form of unpleasant e-mails or poorly made accounts and vast abandoned carts however rise rapidly.  Wonderful weather can have this affect as well, unless you sell outdoor items or things to alleviate sunburn, insect bites etc, I'm sure the most prayers for rain during the summer, is from umbrella makers and online retailers.

very good point! i appreciate different industries will make hay (or otherwise) while the sun shines (or not lol).  It would be great to have some kind of barometer for the general direction of sales among other ecommerce sites - bugs aside.  Perhaps it would be worth putting in the posts the general industry of the site in question.

Anyway, Im feel too new here to start such a thread just yet.  Perhaps when i've settled in a bit more.

Many thanks for the welcomes.
