Has anyone tried upgrading Prestashop?
Got any tips?

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading a site to the latest version which in theory should be relatively painless
but......

When my laptop died I managed to lose all my backups of the files that I modified and the notes I made when I created the site. (got copies of the files for the live site now  ^^ )
So, if I go through an upgrade it will mean I will have to go through every module, css file etc to try and work out what Ive modified in order to keep things online

What do you think, shoudl I stay with what Ive got which works fine or give it a shot?

If your fine with what you have now I wouldnt bother.  The new version (v1.4.0.17) has a lot of bugs currently (voucher system doesnt work very well).  Unless there is something that you definitely need its not worth it.

If you do go ahead with the upgrade here are my tips.

1. Backup your site and sql just in case something goes wrong.
2. Duplicate your site on your server in another folder and try the upgrade there, thats what I have done, its given me an insite into what might go wrong and the ability to alter the files for my theme.  You could test your backup doing this.
3. After upgrading you will need to go to Preferences>SEO and add friendly urls to some of the pages otherwise they wont work.
4. There is a bug in the htaccess generator that generates the wrong code for cms pages which stops them from being accessed, I have a fix for that somewhere if you need it.
5. All of the default modules are coded differently (smarty3) so it is worth uninstalling ALL the modules that you possibly can and then reinstalling when you have upgraded and found new versions of custom modules.
6. Your theme from 1.3 of whatever version you are using probably wont work on v1.4 but might work if you force smart 2 usage.

I have upgraded a live test site but not the proper site yet, cant post the url as dont want it crawled but i can certainly send you it in a pm if you want.

Thanks
From what Ive found out so far I dont think its going to be worth my while to do the upgrade at the moment as the site works fine as it is on the older version.

Think I'll hang fire and just use the new version for my new site(s) when I get round to setting them up by doing a clean install.
I heard that 1.4.0 is pretty stable?

Thanks again
