Hi,

I'm looking to register my company name so that i have the "rights" etc to it and no one else can trade under that name. Does anyone know how to go about this? There's a 101 websites out there and i can't tell the good from the bad

You would need to create a limited company with your name you could simply have the company dormant to protect the identity while trading as a sole trader or you coud use it if it makes financial sense. There are strict limitations in place now on the names you can register with companies house as previously you could just slap on a "uk" or similar to an existing name - this is no longer the case
You will also need to regiister your domain names properly before someone else gets them if you haven't already
Even after all that you would also have to take out a trademark to protect your name - this is the only real way to maintain any clout on the protection of your name.
