Thankyou for a very usefull post. I'm still in the process of figuring out all about keywords and meta tags. Like someoene mentioned earlier about it been written as if for a 5 yr old, that makes it very easy to understand for people like me who know very little lol

I'm an intelligent woman, but you gotta love the way it's explained to you like you're a 5 yo, lol. I bet those SEO companies use huge words to confuse us to make us think we need them. Hmmph! I say to them.  :p

well I was aiming a bit higher than 5 year olds :) but I tried to make it as simple as possible for those that know nothing about SEO :)

It might be considered pimping, but I don't care!
As I'm in the field, writing ORIGINAL product descriptions is VITAL for on-line retail.

If you're using the supplied text you will fall flat on your butt. Because hundreds of others, if not thousands of others, are all using it too. This is especially true if you're a dropshipper.
Check out your own product descriptions in Google and see how many others are using that text.

One example that I find in my work over and over again is the Fleshjack stock. They are incredibly popular and sell extremely well, but most just copy/paste the product description from their dropship supplier.
Adding one line of standard supplier description text in Google (with quotation marks):
"The hard plastic outer shell is discreet, lightweight, and will last you a lifetime."
returns over 88,000 results.

How are those retailers expecting to be reaching the front page with that duplicate content? The link building you'd need to do on a page of duplicate content like that is probably going to be 10X what it would normally take!

Also, wherever possible add a blog to your site to host product reviews and shop news. If it can't be integrated directly, add it on a sub-domain and use that to build traffic and feed it through to the shop. Blogging daily is a sure way to build considerable traffic that a shop with limited updates and limited information would not otherwise manage.

Well, people have to realize that there are a lot of strategies that can be used for SEO. First, we have to break down SEO to two: On-page optimization and Off-page optimization.

On-page optimization includes:

- Writing a good Meta data
- Creating a good navigational structure
- Creating a sitemap
- Creating good H1 and H2 tags
- Keyword optimization

Off-page optimization includes:

- blog commenting
- article directory submission
- blog directory submission
- social bookmarking
- blogging
- forum posting

off page optimisation as you call it has been pretty much made null and viod with the new google panda update

content is king, directory listings, blog and forum posts are pretty much pointless and could very well harm your rankings

the most important thing any one should be paying any attention to is on site content, if you dont have relevant content then you are not going to do well

It's a long old game!

Just one thing to add, A 'link' page on another website is not for webmasters, it's for the visitors. GOOGLE IS NOT THE ONLY SOURCE OF TRAFFIC

SEO is the active practice of optimizing a web site by improving internal and external aspects in order to increase the traffic the site receives from search engines. Firms that practice SEO can vary; some have a highly specialized focus, while others take a more broad and general approach. Optimizing a web site for search engines can require looking at so many unique elements.
Structure – the web language used, navigation, and rich media all have an impact on whether the search engines are able to crawl and understand the theme of your web site.
Content – search engine spiders are really quite dumb. Your web content needs to match-up with the user’s query or your site won’t be found.
Links – the search engines look at the quantity, quality, and relevance of the links pointing to a web site.
