adobe photoshop or adobe fireworks are the main ones I use, paintshop pro is another I'v used alot, and there is always gimp an open source free bit of software

is it to edit photos you've taken?
a cheaper and better solution would be to buy a light tent and use that to place your items in when taking photos, you'll get clear white backgrounds without needing to edit the image

a small light tent isnt expensive at all and thats how the pros get nice clear white backgrounds on product shots  ;)

I did read somewhere someone papered a cardboard box and painted it white inside - depending on the size of the product a cheap alternative could be your answer. :)

I used the bath and turned the room lights on and the flash off, worked a treat.

If you are already photographing on a plain background it may not be the background that's the problem? Do you have an example of an image perhaps there are a couple of tweaks we can help you with?

Amazon are a pain in the neck, so they'd rather have a blurred photo over a light grey background with a clear image ... what rot! I've seen worse far far images on there, they behave every bit as bad as eBay towards sellers.

Sorry for the rant, stupid rules like that get on my nerves.

No its fine. I gave up anyway haha. They have now lifted my selling limits but i have to show them 20 listings before they will put them live.

Our feedback on EBAY speaks for itself. our images are fine people know what they are buying from us most of the time anyway. Nevermind might give it another go when my patience comes back :) x

I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Open picture => edit pictures => colour => enhance colour then click on the darker parts of the background and it will enhance the colours by turning the background white.  You can repeat by just clicking on any darker  parts of the background.  Dont go too far though or your pics colours wont look right! :)

Always take your pics on a white background on a bright, but not sunny day! :)

With that photo you have posted, your lighting is rather poor, which is causing an overexposed look to your product (sorry photographer in me speaking) so try and use a bit more lighting to get a more natural feel to the photo, this will make them look a bit more professional.

Just a bit of advice :)
